Men, young and old, are invited to a community breakfast on Saturday, January 25 at 9am. Come for fellowship, enjoy great food, and be inspired by Taro’s story of how he came to be the owner of one of Sacramento’s favorite restaurants.

When Taro was 11 years old, he saw little future in Japan and dreamed of moving to America. He got a paper route and, over the next five years, managed to save $6,000 so he and his family could emigrate to America. Working in his aunt’s restaurant in California, Taro said it was a chance encounter that made Mikuni, which means “kingdom of God,” possible. Taro is the author of Abundance: Finding the American Dream in a Japanese Kitchen. Arai said. “I keep dreaming of opening 20 restaurants and writing more books. Dreaming is free.”

MLK JR. CELEBRATION

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration began in 1994 at the Memorial Auditorium with Pastor Samuel Gordon and the late Bishop Sherwood Carthen. With other city pastors, they began the task of furthering the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Since then, the Celebration has moved to Capital Christian Center and with more than 30 churches involved. The event has united and empowered students and city-wide difference makers to continue the work of Dr. King.

It is our desire to support and partner with Sacramento-area ethnic churches to financially assist deserving multi-cultural, multi-ethnic students who attend and benefit from a four-year college or university education. In addition, the MLK Celebration Committee awards a few local leaders, businessmen and women, pastors, and other people in the community that are making a difference in Sacramento.

The MLK Celebration Choir is made up of more than 100 voices representing churches of various denominations, cultures, and color throughout the city and suburbs of Sacramento. The choir is under the direction of Dr. Tecoy Porter and Dr. Ellington Porter, also known as the Porter Brothers.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Dr. Rice Broocks

Rice Broocks is cofounder of the Every Nation family of churches, which currently has churches and campus ministries in more than 70 nations. He is also the senior minister of Bethel World Outreach Church in Nashville, Tennessee, a multi-ethnic, multi-site church. The author of several books, including GOD’S NOT DEAD: Evidence for God in An Age of Uncertainty; MAN MYTH MESSIAH: Answering History’s Greatest Question; THE HUMAN RIGHT: To Know Jesus Christ and to Make Him Known; THE PURPLE BOOK: Biblical Foundations for Building Strong Disciples; and EVERY NATION IN OUR GENERATION. Rice lives in Franklin, Tennessee, with his wife, Jody, and their five children.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Pastor James Lowe

James Lowe started his ministry with Marvin Winans in Detroit, Michigan, in the early 1990s. In 1995, James married Debbie Winans, and in 2003 moved to Tennessee to serve as Director of the Youth Life Foundation of Tennessee. James has a bachelor’s degree in social work from Eastern Michigan and worked for 12 years in youth development and intervention programs and services. His passion is outreach, and he has a proven track record for helping youth and other organizations in helping youth break out of the cycle of delinquency and underachievement to become productive members of society.

Pastor Lowe became Senior Associate Pastor of Bethel World Outreach Church in 2007 and Senior Pastor in February 2012. He is committed to reaching a city to touch the world and lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife, Debbie, and their three handsome sons.

If you volunteer in any area of service at Capital: musicians, choir members, worship leaders, greeters, ushers, Capital Kids, Connect Group leaders, Rooted leaders, Celebrate Recovery volunteers, men’s and women’s leaders, senior adult volunteers, and all other areas of ministry, you won’t want to miss this special night dedicated to honor you! Dress is semi-formal and volunteer awards will be handed out. We have some surprises in store for this unforgettable night.

Thanksgiving Service

Join us for special Thanksgiving service on Wednesday, November 27, at 7pm in the Auditorium. It’s a great time of giving thanks to God for His many blessings. Make it part of your holiday tradition!
(Childcare available birth-4 years old.)

One of our favorite parts of this service is the open mic segment. Those in attendance are given the opportunity to say what they are thankful for. We love hearing stories of God’s faithfulness over the past year from those who attend weekly. It’s a highlight for all!

SCT VIP Night | Volunteers Needed!

We are looking for hundreds of volunteers to host groups in the Auditorium for underserved friends from the community while experiencing the Singing Christmas Tree.

Group hosts will provide guest care from 5:30-9:30pm:

Help guests in wheelchairs
Direct guests to restrooms
Answer questions

Setup/Clean up hosts will provide assistance from 5:30-9:30pm:

Preset the Auditorium with guest cards and snacks
Help clean up after the event.

A pre-event volunteer coordination meeting will take place on Sunday, December 1. More information will be provided upon registration.

You can hear the incredible life stories of those we have invited from many city agencies and share your story with them. From foster families, to women’s centers, to homeless shelters, and special needs . . . groups show up to the invite-only premiere of the Singing Christmas Tree.

Travel with us to where it all began. Next March, Capital will be hosting a trip to Israel. This is a life-changing trip that makes the Bible come to life. In this land, some of the oldest civilizations on Earth arose. See the land that God described in Exodus 3:8 as “flowing with milk and honey.” You’ll experience history as you view key landmarks from Scripture including Jerusalem, Megiddo, Gethsemane, the Jordan River, Bethlehem, the Dead Sea, and more.

Led by Pastor Rick Cole, this is more than just a sight-seeing expedition. You’ll learn and grow each day as we provide the biblical background for each and every stop along the way. This is an opportunity to grow in your knowledge and gain first-hand experience of the very land that Christ walked upon. During the trip, there will be regular worship, devotions, and a baptism experience. Renew both your mind and spirit on this trip of a lifetime.
