In the beautiful kingdom that God invites us into, cultural norms are broken to defeat shame and death.
This passage has two important stories sandwiched together. It begins with the story of a synagogue leader (v. 22) pleading with Jesus to come and heal his dying daughter (v. 23), a story that is interrupted by the story of a woman who “had been subject to bleeding for twelve years” (v. 25). These two stories reveal an incredible aspect of the coming kingdom of God: victory over shame and victory over death.
· We are called to advocate for the vulnerable among us.
· Jesus’ brand of compassion is equal for all classes or cultures.
· The touch of Jesus transforms and purifies unclean things.
