7.1.18 // It’s All About the Wind (Week 5)

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE WIND

Read: Acts 8:4-40

1- THERE ARE NO BARRIERS FOR THE WIND

The Jews would avoid Samaria at all costs. They despised the people and the land. God does not know any boundaries. Every soul matters. Part II of this Acts series moves from Jerusalem to Judea & Samaria.

2- LISTEN FOR THE VOICE OF THE WIND

Philip’s obedience to God indicates why God used him so powerfully. He didn’t question why God was sending him to a desert road. The Spirit will tell us where to go. The eunuch encountered the truth of Jesus and was baptized.

3- WATER BAPTISM IS FOR EVERY FOLLOWER OF JESUS

Read: Matthew 3: 16-17 // Jesus set the example when He was baptized

Read: Matthew 28:19 // Jesus instructed everyone to be baptized after becoming a believer.

Read: Romans 6:4 // The significance of the symbolism of water baptism is clear.

Read: Acts 2:41 // The first description of followers of Jesus included water baptism.

6.24.18 // With the Wind (Week 4)

FREEDOM OF THE WIND

Read: Acts 6:1-8:4

Hellenistic Jews: those born in lands other than the Holy Land who spoke the Greek language and were more Greek than Hebrew in their attitudes and outlook.

Hebraic Jews: those who spoke Aramaic or Hebrew and preserved Jewish culture and customs.

1- THE WIND FREES US TO FOLLOW JESUS Stephen was identified as a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit. Jesus invites you to enjoy His presence. He wants to spend time with you.

2- THE WIND FREES US FROM THE FEAR OF MEN Stephen was under intense threat, but he didn’t have fear. His face was like a face of an angel. No matter who is against you, you don’t have to be filled with fear! Stephen saw something the religious people weren’t seeing. He sees a vision of Jesus!

3- THE WIND FREES US TO EXPERIENCE JESUS EVERYWHERE WE GO The Spirit of God isn’t contained in a building or place of worship. He is in you! Nothing can separate us from the love of God. He is with you everywhere you go and in every situation you encounter.

4-THE WIND FREES US FROM BITTERNESS TOWARD THOSE WHO ARE AGAINST US.  How do you find love for the people that hate you? At Stephen’s death, he looked to Christ. He prayed that God wouldn’t hold their sin against them. v7:60

5- THE WIND SCATTERS THE SEEDS OF LIFE TO THE WHOLE WORLD The members of the church in Jerusalem may not have understood what was happening to them, but Jesus would not let His church become limited racially, culturally, or geographically. God works maturity and redemptive good in the midst of evil (Romans 8:28).

INFLUENCE OF THE WIND

Read: Acts 5:1-42

The story of deceit of Ananias and Sapphira follows the account in Acts 4:32-35 where the believers shared their property and goods and gave to those in need.

There are consequences to living a life of deceit. Even though you might not get struck down by death, dishonesty does harm many parts of our lives: a marriage, a conscience, a career, faith, etc. We could also list the deaths of intimacy, trust, peace, credibility, and self-respect.

We will be people of influence when we allow ourselves to be influenced by the wind.
That influence results in:

HONESTY

No need to impress others. Our honesty is impressive enough.

COMPASSION

We are moved to make Jesus known in every way we can. 2 Peter 3:9

A POSITIVE SPIRIT

They rejoiced even in their suffering. Do you have the victory?

Let the wind blow. We need what He provides. Honesty, Compassion and a Positive Spirit.

IMPACT OF THE WIND

Read: Acts 3:1-4:37

THE SPIRIT LEADS US TO THE IMPACT OF JESUS’ NAME

Read: John 15:26

Most of the sermons in Acts contain four elements:

1- a declaration that the time of the Messiah has finally come

2- quotations from the OT to prove that Jesus is the Messiah

3- a review of the life and ministry of Jesus, especially His resurrection

4- a call to repentance

THE SPIRIT IMPACTS PEOPLE TO BELIEVE

Peter’s first sermon- 3000 came to faith. His second sermon – 2000 more.

THE IMPACT OF THE SPIRIT IS A CONTINUAL REFRESHING

A believer’s interaction with the Spirit is never static- Luke describes Peter’s dynamic, ongoing relationship of the Spirit’s power and anointing. It’s not a once and done thing! We’ve gotta keep coming back. We need the wind every day.

THE IMPACT OF THE SPIRIT IS UNDENIABLE

Healing occurred. It was a “notable sign.”

THE IMPACT OF THE SPIRIT IS UNITY

There is power when the body of the church comes together and prays. Pastor shared a memory from a youth choir tour where the students all gathered after a service and were laying on the ground praying. Reminded us of the opportunity to gather this Wednesday night for prayer at 7pm in the Sanctuary again.

6.3.18 With the Wind (Week 1)

WITH THE WIND
The Power of the Wind (Acts 1:1-2:27)
WE DISCOVER OUR PURPOSE BY FOLLOWING JESUS
Our purpose is found in the last instruction given by Jesus which is also a promise. The mission to reach the world is the primary task that Jesus left His church. Read: Acts 1:8
THE POWER OF THE WIND IS NEEDED TO FULFILL OUR PURPOSE
Example of the windmill. We are just like a windmill. A pole with no power. But when the wind comes, we can light up an entire city. A windmill by itself produces nothing, but with the wind produces power.
THE WIND PRODUCES MIRACULOUS RESULTS
Peter preaches the first sermon and 3000 people come to faith. The outpouring of the Spirit produced not just momentary enthusiasm but four continuing results: learning, caring, fellowship and prayer. Prayer is an integral part of the church. The empowering is repeatable. Let’s be a church of prayer.
