Dear Friends of Capital Compassion,
Yesterday was one of those days that reminds us exactly why Capital Compassion exists.
The evening ended at the Tiburon Library where we were invited to participate in a community conversation about homelessness. Several individuals who once lived in the Wood Street Commons encampment in Oakland shared their stories. At one point, nearly 300 people lived there before the entire camp was dismantled.
What made the evening so powerful was that some of the people sharing their stories are now housed—and they’ve chosen to return to that same community to help others who are still living on the streets.
It was a moving reminder of something we believe deeply at Capital Compassion:
Every person matters.
Earlier that same day, a man walked into our center who had been released from Folsom Prison the night before after serving 11 months.
He was released late at night with no resources. No ride. No place to go. No one waiting for him. He simply walked out and onto the streets.
But someone had told him about Capital Compassion.
So the next morning, he found his way to us.
Together, we began walking with him through the next steps of rebuilding his life. He came with faith in his heart and hope that his future can be different than his past.
These are the moments we live for.
At Capital Compassion, we meet people at some of the most difficult points in their journey and remind them that their value has never changed.
Each life matters.
Each story matters.
Each step toward hope matters.
And this work is only possible because of people like you.
I want to personally invite you to join us on April 24 for our Capital Compassion Vision Dinner. It will be an evening where we share stories of transformation and the vision for how together we can continue bringing hope to people in our community.
The dinner is complimentary, and we would love for you to come—and even invite a friend who may not yet know about this work. Click here to register.
Together, we are making a difference one soul at a time.
Thank you for being part of the mission.
