RELATIONSHIPS DEFINE LIFERead: Mark 12:28-31
Relationships are filled with both wonder and pain.
PAIN
· A couple on the verge of divorce neither had hoped for.· Parents who don’t know what to do with a child on a destructive path.· A son whose dad has treated him with disrespect and harsh abuse.· A friend whose feeling of betrayal is so deep that she never wants to trust anyone again.
WONDER
· A marriage no one thought could be restored – but it was and is now thriving with joy.· Friendships in a small group that have become the strength of life.· A family with a newborn baby that has broadened their experience of what love feels like.
JESUS UNDERSTANDS
YOUR RELATIONSHIPS ARE ETERNAL – EVERYTHING ELSE PERISHES
RELATIONSHIPS MUST RECEIVE FIRST PRIORITY
A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD SETS EVERYTHING ELSE IN ORDER
Heart = Feelings
Soul = Decisions
Mind = Thoughts
Strength = Actions
FOLLOW DAVID’S EXAMPLE
1. Talk to God about your feelings.
Psalm 6:6 “I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.”
2. Talk to God about your weaknesses.
Psalm 25:16 “Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.”
3. Talk to God about his strengths.
Psalm 24:8 “Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.”
4. Tell God your fears.
Psalm 55:5 “Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me.”
5. Pour out to God the desires of your heart.
Psalm 38:9 “All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.”
6. Say out loud what you know to be true.
Psalm 18:1-2 “I love you, Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
